Welcome to our Great (ish) Virtual Bake off, week 1, which was all about cake.

Entries trickled in from the team as early as last week (some couldn’t wait) and others left theirs right up until the wire last night waiting for the cakes to cool before icing and competition cut off at 8am this morning. J4 encouraged all in households to get involved – housemates, family, partners and children.

Notable entries included Simon adding some cash incentive to his finished picture after finding out the judges didn’t like cream and preferred money (they were too smart to fall for it), and another who’s oven was in need of an upgrade nobly entering when the result clearly hadn’t gone quite to plan. A true winner!

After not much deliberation the judges awarded Pete the winner (his wife and family did a stunning job with the “Cheesecake”), and Phil the runner up with his wonderful muffins.

We all had some much appreciated fun and enjoyed getting creative in the kitchen, even though some ingredients had to be improvised. Roll on next week….bread. Thanks Team!
