Great (ish) Virtual Bake Off – Week 4, Showstopper!

And here we are, the final week, 4 of our J4 Great(ish) Virtual Bake Off – beautifully towered choux buns, delicious cakes and meringues.

Other notable entries included this rather lovely no bake cheese cake (for the oven challenged baker), complete with plum fascinator, and a flap jack and shreddie Maya Temple.

We were so lucky having such a variety of excellent judges this week, including Bake Off’s Dan Beasley-Harling who kindly agreed to do the honours.  Dan entered into the spirit and provided comments for all entries finding something complementary to say for each one.

Here’s what Dan said about his choice, “If I had to pick a winner,  I would pick the Clifton Suspension Bridge, simply on the basis that I know how much work must have gone into it, and what a range of skills it takes to make something like that. I’m a very technical baker, so that’s one of the things that I personally find impressive.

That being said, they are all fantastic efforts, and everyone should feel very proud of what they’ve made! I only wish I could have tasted the, and how lovely to be involved in your office bake off!” Well done to the Mitchell’s, Pete tells us it was a team effort.

Our other judges, Barney, Jamie and Layla chose The Robinson Girls’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as their winner, the Clifton Suspension Bridge as their second place, and the J4 team cake pops curtesy of the Folly’s as their third place.

So that concludes what’s been a great few weeks of baking, substitutions of ingredients and creativity. Great to be able to still share some fun with the team and involve our families and housemates at home too.
